I tried doing fans the boring way and it worked after 47 tries

I know this is a tiny sample size, but after 4 attempts the pattern is pretty clear. When I keep the setup simple, I actually follow through.

This is probably obvious to veterans here, but it clicked for me only recently. fans got easier when I stopped treating every attempt like a final exam.

The detail that surprised me was how much my desk changed the outcome. Same plan, different setting, completely different energy

This would have saved me a lot of trial and error.

That is a much better way to say it

Good timing. The surprising part is easy to underestimate.

Helpful and not preachy, which is rare. I learned that one the expensive way

This is one of those ideas that looks great online and falls apart on Tuesday. For me it came down to the conversation

Maya Williams · 5 likes

Maybe, but the tradeoff seems bigger than the post suggests.

Would this work in a smaller place? I noticed something similar in Dublin.

I would love a follow-up example

Same here. It took me too long to learn

Respectfully, I see it the other way

This. Exactly this

That sounds great until you add children/pets/deadlines

That is the part people skip

Thanks for making it less intimidating

I agree with the goal and disagree with the method

I had a similar experience, but my problem was consistency rather than motivation. The low-effort version is probably the keeper

I think the bad version of this advice causes alot of frustration. I noticed the same thing in Warsaw

Iryna Melnyk · 10 likes

Exactly; the hidden cost is energy

You just saved me a bad purchase

really good advice, and it feels doable. A little friction removed goes a long way

Anecdotally, this tracks with what I’ve seen.

I think this advice is overrated. I keep a note about clubs for exactly this reason

The kindness in this post is lovely.

Mariam Al Mansoori · 2 likes

That last line is excellent. I care less about the perfect answer and more about repeatability

Mango Otter · 2 likes

What happened after the first week? Did it stay easy?

Rizky Pratama · 2 likes

I disagree a bit. Expectations are usually the bigger issue. I’d make the first step visible too.

Mariana Costa · 2 likes

The boring logistics are always the hidden part, especially when you’re tired.

Brave Lantern · 1 likes

The cozy part is easy to underestimate.

Iryna Melnyk · 1 likes

The context helps. I’d have assumed the opposite without it.

Brave Rider · 1 likes

That would annoy me more then it helped. Consistency beats intensity here

Élodie Favre · 1 likes

Glad you shared it; small wins count. The setup matters.

This is adorable and oddly motivating. I care less about the perfect answer and more about repeatability

This feels like advice from a patient friend. My only addition is to make the first step visible

Chiara Romano · 0 likes

This is genuinely helpful thanks for writing it out. I would write it down before changing anything else

Ananya Rao · 0 likes

Agree completely. The simple version is underrated. This would have saved me alot of trial and error

Valentina Ruiz · 0 likes

Amazing how much difference one small change can make. The simplest version wins for me.

Rohan Mehta · 0 likes

My first thought was cost, then time, then whether I’d remember to do it.

Genuinely helpful, thanks for writing it out.
