Keeping indie gaming simple helped me follow through

Four attempts is a tiny sample, but the pattern seems pretty clear: when I keep the setup simple, I actually follow through.

'Tiny progress is still progress' sounds cheesy. But it helped when indie games stopped feeling new.

The conclusion is too broad, but the example is interesting. The low-effort version is probably the keeper

Big fan of this approach. The quiet part is easy to underestimate

There's an assumption here not everyone shares. A friend tried it in Jakarta and got the opposite result. Co-op makes almost anything better.

what would you change if you started over? I noticed the same thing in Mumbai

Curious Lantern · 2 likes

Can you expand on that a bit?

Lena Müller · 30 likes

Did anyone else read this and immediately make a tiny checklist? I noticed the same thing in Cape Town

Isha Menon · 23 likes

the vibe here is immaculate. I used to overcomplicate this constantly

Kabir Khan · 8 likes

Same here. It took me too long to learn

Tiny Panda · 19 likes

I like the encouragement in this post.

Mara Fischer · 18 likes

I disagree a bit. Expectations are usually the bigger issue. Curious about trying this during a busy month.

Faisal Al Saud · 18 likes

Interesting. I would like to see how it changes after 4 months. I would write it down before changing anything else

This reminds me of something a friend in Lagos mentioned. My only addition is to make the first step visible

Valeria López · 8 likes

This is the gentle version of my rant

Sara Al Nuaimi · 2 likes

That is a much better way to say it

Urban Rider · 14 likes

Really good advice, and it feels doable. The gentle constraint is probably the real story

Jonas Schneider · 14 likes

Cheering you on. Curious how it'll feel next month.

Marco Conti · 14 likes

A friend tried it in Mumbai and got the opposite result.

Iryna Melnyk · 12 likes

fair point, but I had the opposite experience. The ambitious constraint is probably the real story

Mango Mango · 11 likes

I think this underestimates how different people's constraints are.

Ananya Rao · 10 likes

The boring logistics are always hidden. I can already hear the menu music.

Rohan Mehta · 10 likes

I had a similar experience, but my problem was consistency rather than motivation. This is more useful on a tired commute than on a perfect day

Kabir Khan · 9 likes

Seems sensible, though I'd need to test it myself. Curious whether indie games will still feel good next month.

Pixel Marauder · 8 likes

Glad you shared it; small wins count. I noticed the same thing in Cairo

Sleepy Rider · 2 likes

I think both things can be true

Iryna Melnyk · 1 likes

Small caveat: context changes the answer a lot

Aisha Jacobs · 8 likes

this is useful for some cases, but terrible advice if the stakes are high. I used to overcomplicate this constantly

Laura Gómez · 7 likes

This reminds me of something a friend in Melbourne mentioned. I learned that one the expensive way

Amelia Hughes · 0 likes

@quiet_laura The best answer in the thread, honestly

Maya Williams · 5 likes

I like the idea, but the setup probably matters a lot

Kabir Khan · 5 likes

Amazing how much one small change can make.

Mariana Costa · 5 likes

I learned the expectations lesson the expensive way. I can already hear the menu music.

Luciana Vargas · 4 likes

I'd try it for five days before deciding.

Maja Wiśniewska · 4 likes

I don't have a strong take, but the small detail helps.

Arif Hasan · 4 likes

This is genuinely helpful, thanks for writing it out

Sleepy Marauder · 3 likes

Now I want a spreadsheet

Oussama Alaoui · 2 likes

I am stealing that phrase

Kabir Khan · 4 likes

For me, it came down to the setup.

Tola Ibrahim · 3 likes

Needed this reminder today. Repeatability matters more than the perfect answer.

Noé Petit · 3 likes

Needed this reminder. Curious whether indie games will still feel good next month.

Saving this for when I overthink things. Removing a little friction goes a long way.

Aisha Rahman · 3 likes

That last line is excellent. I would test it for 7 days before deciding

Paper Orbit · 3 likes

I disagree a bit. Expectations are the bigger issue. I'd write it down before changing anything else.

Marco Conti · 3 likes

I'd love a follow-up after seven weeks.

Miguel Santos · 9 likes

Same, I'd like a follow-up too.

Mariam Said · 5 likes

That is a much better way to say it

Tanvir Rahman · 12 likes

Totally agree, especially for beginners

Sara Al Nuaimi · 5 likes

yep, the boring details matter

Valeria López · 2 likes

Noticed the same thing in Cairo.

Hana Choi · 1 likes

I would pin this if I could

Mara Fischer · 2 likes

Love the tiny experiment energy. A little friction removed goes a long way

Martina Fernández · 6 likes

short answer: yes. Long answer: also yes

Noah Miller · 2 likes

Feels like advice from a patient friend.

Arif Hasan · 2 likes

I learned this the expensive way.

Jasmine Cruz · 2 likes

agree completely. The simple version is underrated. That is where the boring checklist helps

Maja Wiśniewska · 2 likes

For me, it came down to the conversation.

Priya Nair · 2 likes

I am cheering for this update. Honestly, the simplest version wins for me

Faisal Al Saud · 1 likes

Helpful and not preachy, which is rare.

Lina Al Harbi · 1 likes

Really good advice, and it feels doable

Arif Hasan · 1 likes

I'd write it down before changing anything else.

Sleepy Runner · 4 likes

I am curious what changed your mind

Hugo Martin · 0 likes

I'd like to see how it changes after ten months. Could've saved me some trial and error.
