My favorite low-effort upgrade for investing after 21 tries

My current rule is simple: if it takes less than 8 minutes to prepare, I am much more likely to keep doing it.

I tried this in Melbourne with a friend and we both noticed the same thing: the social part mattered more than the perfect plan.

My current rule is simple: if it takes less than 4 minutes to prepare, I am much more likely to keep doing it

Not wrong, but I think this underestimates how different people's constraints are. For me it came down to the playlist

I would push back gently on teh investing part. This pairs weirdly well with banana bread

This has cozy competence written all over it. The low-effort version is probably the keeper. The spreadsheet should include the emotional cost too

There is probably a middle ground here. The gentle constraint is probably the real story

Camila Rocha · 4 likes

That made the concept click

This feels a little overrated to me, even if the intention is good. My only addition is to make the first step visible

Amazing how much difference one small change can make. I would write it down before changing anything else

This is the gentle version of my rant

I had a similar experience, but my problem was consistency rather than motivation. I would test it for 10 days before deciding

Pieter Botha · 9 likes

you explained the tradeoff realy clearly. I would test it for 5 days before deciding

Isha Menon · 8 likes

Great point especially the part about effort. I would test it for 7 days before deciding

That is a much better way to say it

good clarification — I read it differently at first

@midnight_isha84 Small caveat: context changes the answer a lot

I like this more then the top-level advice

Excellent timing; I was just thinking about investing. I would write it down before changing anything else

The boring logistics are always the hidden part. My only addition is to make the first step visible

Helpful and not preachy, which is rare. The weekend version is even more interesting

That sounds great until you add children/pets/deadlines

I laughed, but you are not wrong

The Tuesday test is undefeated

I think both things can be true

That is a good boundary

@quiet_maksym I needed the reminder to start smaller

This. Exactly this

I am saving this for the next time I overthink upgrade. I would write it down before changing anything else. The hidden expense is usually time

Huy Le · 4 likes

What happened after the first week? I am curious whether effort stayed easy. The quiet Sunday version is even more interesting. I would document the agreement in writing

Hugo Sánchez · 0 likes

Thanks that actually helped

Glad you shared it; small wins count. The hidden expense is usually time

This is the kind of useful internet I still show up for. I noticed the same thing in Cairo

helpful correction

This sounds good, but in practice it can be a bad idea without more context. I would write it down before changing anything else

Tomás Gómez · 3 likes

What would you change if you started over? This pairs weirdly well with pasta

This. Exactly this

excellent timing; I was just thinking about effort. I would love to see a follow-up after 6 weeks

What would you change if you started over? The social part surprised me too

Really good advice, and it feels doable. The lunch break version is even more interesting

My first thought was cost, then time, then whether I would remember to do it. I am curious whether saving still feels good next month

Amazing how much difference one small change can make. I noticed the same thing in Toronto

You explained the tradeoff really clearly. The Lagos example makes it feel concrete

Mango Orbit · 35 likes

Totally agree, especially for beginners

Solar Lantern · 1 likes

That is a surprisingly elegant way to frame it. My friend tried it in Madrid and had the opposite result

Camila Rocha · 1 likes

Good reminder that boring can be good. This pairs weirdly well with sourdough

Valeria López · 1 likes

Honestly, great taste. The surprising constraint is probably teh real story. I would document teh agreement in writing

Noé Petit · 0 likes

The context helps. Without it I would have assumed the opposite. I noticed the same thing in São Paulo
