LayerFS: a filesystem designed for AI coding agents

layerfs.ai

LayerFS pitches copy-on-write filesystem layers so coding agents can try changes in isolation and roll back instantly. Basically git worktrees + overlayfs for agents. Useful primitive, or are worktrees and containers good enough?

agent infra is the new devtools gold rush

git worktrees solve 90% of this for me honestly

worktrees break when the agent touches node_modules or build artifacts tho

that last 10% is where all the pain lives

overlayfs with a nice API is basically what docker already does

right, but spinning a container per attempt is slow-ish

the instant rollback is the interesting part. agents doing 20 experimental branches in parallel

parallel attempts and pick the best is the future, needs cheap isolation
