A photo of your face could help predict cancer treatment survival

useful in a clinic with consent, creepy the second an insurer gets it

what about skin tones, was the training data diverse?

always the right question with face models. the paper says multi-center but mostly white patients from what I read

if it helps decide who can tolerate aggressive chemo, thats a win

right, its about avoiding overtreatment, not deciding who gets care

doctors have always eyeballed patients and said 'they look frail'. this is just quantified

the 'eyeball test' is real in medicine, oncologists use it constantly

Also this week: big study found no link between ultra-processed food and colorectal cancer. science news is a rollercoaster

that study had a lot of caveats tho, people will read it as 'eat chips freely'
