my uncle got stung in mexico years ago and the antivenom situation was rough, hoping stuff like this actually trickles down to clinics

hope he's ok

I'd like to know if the binders were actually tested in a lab or if this is in silico only. makes a huge difference

that's my question too, wording on these posts can be vague

a chatbot fighting scorpions was not on my 2026 bingo card

the scorpions did not consent to this

this is the kind of AI news I want more of. less chatbot drama, more fixing actual problems

agreed, more of this please

antivenom is one of those problems that's important but has terrible economics, so anything that lowers the cost of design is great news

exactly, the people who get stung are mostly not the people big pharma optimizes for

bio person here. designing binders is the 'easy' part relatively speaking. the long road is manufacturing, safety, trials. still cool though

so like 5% of the way to a product but a pretty exciting 5%

appreciate the reality check

the dual-use angle is the obvious elephant here. same skills that design binders against toxins could... you know

they presumably thought about that, anthropic is pretty loud about bio safety. still a valid worry

Curious if the trick is mostly the agent loop: generate, score with a structure model, iterate. That pattern seems to be working across a lot of science domains right now

yeah the llm as a lab manager pattern. it doesn't need to be the best protein model, it needs to drive the tools well
