Repairability scores are actually starting to influence purchase decisions — anyone else noticing this shift?

For years repairability was a niche concern mostly talked about by right-to-repair advocates. Lately I've noticed mainstream reviews leading with repairability scores, and a few friends who've never cared before specifically asked me about battery replacement cost before buying their last phone. Feels like a real vibe shift, not just a loud minority anymore.

legislation in the EU pushing this stuff is honestly doing more for repairability than a decade of advocacy did, regulation works when it actually has teeth

battery replacement cost is the one that converted me too, paying 90 dollars to swap a battery vs buying a whole new phone is an easy choice once you know its an option

i still think most people say they care but then buy the sealed glass slab anyway because it looks nicer on the shelf, actions vs stated preferences gap is real

fair but the gap is shrinking, repairability scores are at least now a tiebreaker when products are otherwise similar

modular design always sounds great until you realize it usually means a chunkier worse looking device, tradeoffs exist for a reason

ifixit scores are basically a standard reference point for me now before any purchase, didnt used to even check before

ive kept the same laptop for 7 years because i can replace the battery and ssd myself, repairability is genuinely the best sustainability feature a product can have

manufacturers are gonna keep gluing things together until it actually costs them sales, glad to hear that might finally be happening

this is good news for landfills too honestly, longer device lifespans matter alot more than people give credit for
