Capsule wardrobes: genuinely life changing minimalism or just repackaged 'buy less stuff' advice?

Did a 33 item capsule challenge for 3 months and the actual revelation wasnt about having fewer clothes, it was realizing how much decision fatigue i was carrying every morning without noticing. Curious if others found the same or if this is overhyped for most peoples actual lifestyles.

the decision fatigue reduction is the real underrated benefit imo, everyone focuses on the sustainability angle but the mental load relief is what actually kept me doing it long term

tried this and found it genuinely doesnt work well for people with more varied social/professional contexts in a given week, 33 items felt restrictive once i had to dress for 4 different 'modes' of life

quality over quantity became way more obvious to me doing this, when you only have a few items you notice fit and fabric quality issues immediately that you'd ignore in a bigger wardrobe

the math on cost per wear completely changed my buying habits after this experiment, a \$200 item worn 100 times beats a \$40 item worn 3 times and i never thought about it that explicitly before

overhyped for people with active kids/messy jobs imo, laundry frequency goes way up with fewer items and thats a real practical cost worth considering before committing

did a similar challenge and the surprise benefit for me was shopping became genuinely more intentional and less impulsive afterward, even once i stopped strictly following the capsule rules
