Is it normal to feel lonely even when you have a good group of friends?

I have people I genuinely like and see regularly but still feel this background loneliness a lot of the time. Not depressed exactly, just a disconnect I cant quite name. Anyone relate to this or found ways through it?

this is incredibly common, having friends and feeling truly SEEN by someone are different needs and you can have one without the other

for me it was the difference between friends i do activities with vs friends i can be vulnerable with, i had plenty of the first and almost none of the second

therapy helped me name this exact feeling as 'emotional loneliness' vs 'social isolation', knowing the distinction helped me address the actual thing missing

sometimes its less about the friends and more about not feeling truly known by yourself yet, worth some solo reflection too not just more socializing

i relate to this a lot, started being more vulnerable first in conversations myself and it changed the depth of a couple key friendships over time

not everyone needs the same amount of deep connection, also worth checking if this is just your baseline temperament vs an actual problem to solve

this thread made me realize i should reach out to my oldest friend today instead of just liking their post, thank you for this
