Qwen vs Llama vs local Ollama setups — what's actually your daily driver in 2026?

Curious what the community is running locally day to day now. I've settled on a Qwen variant through Ollama on Apple Silicon for quick coding questions and offline note-taking, keeping cloud models for the heavy lifting. What's your setup?

M-series unified memory makes local inference so much more pleasant than it used to be, 64gb lets me run some big quants comfortably

qwen has been my go to for code completion locally, surprisingly solid at following instructions

agreed, its instruction following is underrated

i still bounce back to cloud models for anything requiring long context, local models fall apart past like 16k tokens for me

ollama's ease of use is honestly its biggest selling point, one command and youre running a model

running a small llama variant purely for privacy sensitive internal docs, speed isnt even the priority there

my setup is basically 'local for drafts, cloud for final polish' and it works great as a workflow

anyone got a good local setup for a windows machine with just a 3060? curious what's realistic there

3060 12gb can run 7-8b models comfortably quantized, dont expect miracles beyond that

lol my laptop fan sounds like a jet engine every time i run anything above 8b locally
