A surprisingly useful lesson from the corner shop with an awkward constraint

I started this because my winter felt a little stuck, and java seemed like a manageable place to experiment. The funny part is that the smallest change was the one I kept.

This is probably obvious to veterans here, but it clicked for me only recently. java got easier when I stopped treating every attempt like a final exam.

A few notes from my attempt:
- keep the first step visible
- remove one annoying decision
- celebrate the boring repeat

I had a disappointing first try, a surprisingly good second try, and then a third attempt that taught me humility. So, naturally, I now have opinions

I would not call it wrong, just incomplete. The surprising constraint is probably the real story

This sounds sensible, though I would need to test it myself. That is where the boring checklist helps

The Tuesday test is undefeated

amazing how much difference one small change can make. Honestly, the simplest version wins for me

This feels like advice from a patient friend. My friend tried it in Jakarta and had the opposite result

I think the bad version of this advice causes a lot of frustration. The low-effort version is probably the keeper

I am stealing that phrase

Wonderful detail. It makes the whole thing feel real. The cozy part is easy to underestimate

Same here. It took me too long to learn

Beautifully concise

I found this disappointing because it skips the hardest part. The beautiful part is easy to underestimate

Anecdotally, this tracks with what I have seen. Honestly, the simplest version wins for me

Honestly great taste. My friend tried it in Dublin and had the opposite result. Naming things remains undefeated as the hardest problem

this made me smile more than expected. I would love to see a follow-up after 3 weeks
