beginner portfolio question: btc only or tiny alt basket too?

I'm new have mostly been buying bitcoin, and part of me likes the simplicity. Another part of me keeps thinking maybe I should of a little ETH and maybe one or two others just so I'm not learning with tunnel vision.

How did you approach this in your first year?

if you do alts, keep the number small. Beginner mistake is building a zoo

BTC only is the easiest to understand emotionally. Fewer tabs open in your brain.
